6th November -- Biddulph, Cheshire | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
A discouraging forecast, but rain did not set in seriously until mid-afternoon. Generally gloomy, with the odd gleam of sun in the morning. | |||||
The 'C' walk started in the coach park at Bidulph Grange and headed for Congleton Edge and the Gritstone Trail. Walking along the edge, there were wide but misty views over the Cheshire Plane. At the end of the ridge,we admired the local "folly", Mow Cop Castle. From this point, we returned trip across the fields to join the Bidulph Valley Way, a disused rail track and so, back to the coach. | |||||

A wet return.. | |||||
Starting a couple of miles north of Biddulph Grange Country Park, we headed N along the old rail line of the Biddulph Valley Way, then turned east across the fields towards Timbersbrook and from there climbed the west flank of The Cloud. The views were disappointing in cold drizzle so we didn't linger. The weather cleared as we descended the far side of The Cloud and joined the Cheshire Canal close to its aqueduct over the River Dane. From here we follow the canal in a loop to the West and back into Congleton as the rain started more seriosly. The log fire at the Railway pub was then very welcome! | |||||

The A walk started at Grange Country Park and headed towards Biddulph Moor, then via the Wicken Stones to Rock End and on to Greenway Bank Country Park. We then went over to Mow Cop Castle and the Old Man of Mow and headed North along the Gritstone Trail picking up the Biddulph Valley Way up to the Macclesfield Canal which we followed into Congleton finishing at the Railway Pub near the station. | |||||
And finally... | |||||
